The Astrology of a May/December Romance

Relationships with a significant age gap between partners have definite astrological signatures. Transits can trigger this kind of romance, but each partner will also have certain indicators in their charts. These signatures will describe the dynamics of responsibility, control, security and vulnerability.

The Older Partner

There may be a case of arrested development (refusal to accept the fact that they’re growing older) or a desire to be the “parent” in a relationship. Natal Cancer (the child), Aries (new impulse) or Leo (self-expression and play) will be emphasized. For example, Mr. December has Aries on the Descendant (7th House cusp), with ruler Mars conjunct Moon in Leo. He needs (Moon) to express impulsive play and unchecked self-expression. If he’s not owning his 7th House energy, he would look to his partner to act out these unexpressed needs. His Saturn/Capricorn would also be emphasized. For example, he might have Saturn in the 5th House or in hard aspect to personal planets. 5th House Saturn suggests he was not allowed to be a child, so he explores that energy through his partner while taking on the adult role.

The Younger Partner

This partner may want to be looked after, or may be dealing with unresolved parental issues. Capricorn/Saturn would be emphasized here — perhaps Ms. May has Saturn in the 7th, her DC ruler in Capricorn, or Saturn in hard aspect to her personal planets. 7th House Saturn energy suggests she might project her authority onto an older partner, while Saturn in hard aspect to Mars or Venus can indicate an attraction to older partners. Cancer, Leo or Aries would also be strong in her chart. For example, her North Node is in Aries, ruler Mars in Capricorn. Her path forward involves a mature expression of Aries’ newborn energy, which she might develop through her partner.

The age difference will show up clearly in synastry. The older partner’s Saturn will invariably make hard aspects to the younger partner’s personal planets. In a relationship with a 14-year age gap, one partner’s Saturn will oppose the other’s; the planet of time clearly delineates the different points each partner is at in their cycle of maturity. In the case of a  28-year age gap, their Saturns will conjoin each other. This illustrates a cycle of rules and responsibility that has come full circle, via the relationship. How they deal with the Saturn aspects between them depends on their respective approaches to this planet. Does Mr./Ms. December try to limit the energies they were drawn to in their May partner? Or, does the May partner end up shouldering the Saturn responsibilities placed upon them by December, resulting in a reversed parent/child dynamic?

Both Sides of the Coin

You may have noticed that both partners have interchangeable child/adult emphasis in their charts. For example, it’s possible for someone with a 7th House Saturn to be the younger or older partner, depending on what stage they’re at in their development. Transits, and each partner’s readiness to deal with age-related themes in their chart, will determine who plays the May or December role.

Mr. May could meet his Ms. December during his Saturn return; he’s ready to confront his Saturn issues, in the guise of an older partner. And Ms. December meets Mr. May while transiting Uranus, Jupiter or Neptune is moving through her 7th House, pushing her to break some relationship rules and expand her view of what’s possible in her love life. Both partners will have to be experiencing transits that make them receptive to the particular qualities of a May/December romance. And both will need the above-mentioned signs emphasized in their charts.

This could be a first-time situation, or a continuing pattern. It’s not always unhealthy. It’s entirely possible that each partner has issues they need to work through, and a May/December age gap is the catalyst. Perhaps the December partner, with their South Node in Cancer, has never learned how to be an adult. They meet someone 15 years their junior, and they become the defacto elder in the relationship.

Moon and Jupiter main theme in a cross-chart reading

Hello

I am analyzing the charts for two people and everywhere I look the Moon/Jupiter connection pops up as a main core.

In mythology I only have found the connection between the greek goddess Selene (Moon) and Zeus (Jupiter).

In astrotheology we have the biggest masculine sky body (Yang) meeting the deepest feminine sky body (Yin).

In my charts I have these:

1. Synastry Chart
– his Jupiter conjuncts her Moon in her 9th house (Jupiter ruled house);
– her Jupiter aspects his Moon in a minor aspect though placed in the 9th harmonics (again 9);
– her Ascendant is Sagittarius, so chart ruler Jupiter;
– his Ascendant is Cancer, so chart ruler Moon;
– his Moon falls in the same sign as her Asc (Sagittarius);
– his natal Moon falls in his own 6th house; her natal Jupiter falls in her own 6th house;

2. Composite Chart
– Jupiter in Cancer & 4th house (which conjuncts his natal Asc) square Moon in Libra (which conjuncts her natal North Node);

3. Davison Chart
– Jupiter square Moon;

4. Transits
– they both have met for the first time when transit Jupiter was exactly in conjunction to their synastry Moon/Jupiter conjunction;
– for 12 years (a full Jupiter cycle) they were in an acquaintance mode;
– the year and month (2016 June) Jupiter returned to the same synastry point (Moon/Jupiter conjunct) they have gradually started to see a different person in the other;
– When finally Jupiter switched signs and entered Libra and it started a new cycle the two people have really begun to see in each other the depth and the essence of their beings; after that the new Moon in Libra on top of Jupiter has somehow unlocked a secret door unveiling a new world.

Love Horoscope for the Week of October 3

It’s a week of strange but powerful longings, and if you want to pump up the volume on your current relationship (or get something new started), there are some powerful aspects happening. But if you prefer quiet stability in your human relations, then… um… consider faking having the flu and go into quarantine or something.

Venus trine Neptune was exact on the weekend, but still influences the first two or three days of this week. That aspect casts a sweet and fuzzy glow over things, and if that’s your preferred romantic vibe, take advantage of it quickly, because things are about to get a little wild. Take advantage of it before Wednesday.

Ah yes, Wednesday… or as I like to think of it this week, “Planets Gone Wild!” Yes, the conventional wisdom tells us to make dates for the weekend. Well, this Wednesday is made for breaking the rules. First of all, Venus sextile Pluto will take all those sweet and romantic longings and give them added depth and strength. Ever had a craving for a burrito (or whatever) that was so strong that you just couldn’t stop thinking about them until you got one? It’s like that, except substitute “new romance” for “burrito.” You’re not the only one feeling that way, so go find someone!

Also, on Wednesday, Mars square Jupiter increases the sexual impulse… and impulsiveness. As a young male in Junior High, I often had to carry my books in front of me in order to hide… um, never mind. It’s like that. Both the Venus and Mars aspects may be exact on Wednesday, but they have an influence on the entire week. Nonetheless, I insist that Wednesday is Dating Prime Time, what with Moon in Sagittarius providing an additional call to adventure.

On Friday, Mercury enters Libra. This is important for two different reasons. One, it means that we are now officially out of the Mercury Retrograde shadow period (think of it as Mercury Retrograde’s “hangover”). Secondly — within the context of a “love horoscope” like this one — it’s going to be a lot easier to express your feelings in words. Write a love letter, express what’s in your heart, and practice your best pick-up lines before using them on someone. Pick-up lines generally don’t work, but with Mercury in Libra they might actually come across as charming… for once.

Saturday offers some interesting romantic opportunities. Admittedly Moon in Capricorn doesn’t have the reputation for being incredibly romantic, but it certainly seeks emotional security. Don’t be afraid to make yourself look and sound like a good investment for someone, and you’re likely to find a buyer. Moon conjunct Pluto towards the evening will just lend depth to the mood, and those Venus and Mars aspects are still in effect. Make sure you get out and take advantage of it on Saturday, because the Moon is Void of Course for most of the day on Sunday.

Mars in Scorpio, Moon in Libra Compatibility

Mars in Scorpio will be way too heavy for Moon in Libra’s delicate emotional balance. His demand for raw authenticity could make Libra feel overwhelmed, while her need to please may come across as fake to Scorpio. Are there any areas of compatibility between these two?

Mars in Scorpio will push for a real relationship. He’s energized by passion, honesty and taboo-busting sexuality. Mars in Scorpio is turned on by what lies beneath the surface of a partnership, after the mask has dropped and the real face of his lover has emerged. His partner may find his insistence (and desire for control) to be a bit much, but there’s no questioning his absolute loyalty.

Moon in Libra needs a happy relationship. This sounds simplistic, but it actually reflects her need for harmony. And for Moon in Libra, harmony means a happy partner. On the positive side, this makes her an instinctive compromiser and diplomat. On the downside, she can lose track of her needs as she does everything to keep the peace and attend to her lover’s desires.

Mars in Scorpio will push Libra into uncomfortable territory, urging her to be honest and express what she’s really feeling. Moon in Libra will find this invasive. Initially, she may do as Scorpio says, but this will displease him as he senses that she’s only “opening up” to make him happy. He’ll push her harder, looking for a confrontation. She’ll pull away, pretending that everything is fine. Mars in Scorpio may be attracted to the challenge of breaking Libra’s surface, but this will be precisely what Moon in Libra dislikes about him. If other aspects in their charts draw them together, Scorpio could teach Libra about her own emotional authenticity, and Libra could balance out some of Scorpio’s more extreme impulses. But each will have to accept the other’s very different energy.
