The big aspect this week is Mars trine Pluto, which is exact late Wednesday/early Thursday, but is in effect throughout the week. This should prove to boost energy levels and fuel ambitions. Long-standing obstacles will be easier to overcome, and it will be easier to take action. Great… you could use some of that, couldn’t you? Don’t assume that just because we’re talking about a trine (the “best” of the “good” aspects) that what you do with it is automatically a good and worthy thing. In fact, there are a couple of distinct cautions around being too bold this week.
First of all, Saturn turns retrograde Wednesday night. The good news is that a retrograde Saturn isn’t necessarily debilitating or a deal-breaker if you want something lasting to take hold… but make sure you’ve thought your actions through thoroughly. That, and (admittedly) with Venus still retrograde, you might want to take a pass on making any permanent changes in your love life right now. What’s more important than the retrograde itself is the neighborhood Saturn is hanging out in. Between now and the end of August, Saturn will back up all the way to 21 degrees Sagittarius before it moves forward again. You know that wounded-animal sound the placements in your chart in the last third of the Mutable Signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces) have been making this year? Get used to that until the end of the year.
Second, on Sunday Mercury turns retrograde. If you’ve spent much time hanging around with astrologers, you already know that Mercury Retrograde can bring all sorts of flubs and failures around communications, signing contracts, short trips, and all the usual things that a backwards Mercury can mess with. Between now and May 3rd, show extra caution, take the time to proofread, and make sure your e-mail is going to the right address.
“Wait,” you may find yourself thinking by this point, “this is supposed to be a Love Horoscope! Where’s the love?” Honestly, I wish I could help you with that, but love ain’t easy with Venus square Saturn happening, which is exact on Saturday but still manages to screw up the entire weekend, romance-wise. Furthermore, the weekend also brings us Sun opposite Jupiter and Sun square Pluto… either of which could cause some interpersonal friction.

Capricorn acts within the limits, while Moon in Sagittarius needs to explore beyond the limits. Capricorn may feel dull and controlling to Sag–the more he tries to impress her with his authority, the less interested she’ll be. However, both these signs want progress, so this could be a commonality that ties them together.
Mars in Capricorn follows the rules. He’s ambitious and driven, but you won’t find him breaking with tradition. His classic and conservative approach to courtship means that his lover can rely on him. Mars in Capricorn won’t do anything crazy, and he always follows through on his intentions. His ideal partner would be ok with him taking the reins of the relationship, because he asserts himself by taking control.
Moon in Sagittarius needs room to follow whatever takes her fancy. In her heart, she’s a wanderer, even if she’s in a committed relationship. Mars in Capricorn’s best efforts will fail to impress Sagittarius. She’ll find him amusing, but she won’t care about the goals (like status and achievement) that drive him. If other aspects between their charts suggest chemistry, they might try to make a go of it. But there will always be tension between Capricorn’s efforts to maintain his authority and Sag’s complete disregard for his authority (and much of what he takes seriously). However, Capricorn’s ambition and Sagittarius’ need for expansion can be a point of compatibility, if they develop tolerance for each other’s differences. Capricorn can help Sagittarius manifest some of her hopes, putting in the practical work to make them happen. And Sagittarius can use her unfailing optimism to support him if he becomes discouraged.
