Love Horoscope for the Week of December 26

The last month of the year always feels like it has a particular historical significance going for it, even though it often doesn’t. That’s probably because it’s time to put up a new calendar and the news is filling airtime with recaps of the year and lists of celebrities who have died in the past twelve months — and oh, what a tragic bumper crop we’ve had of that in 2016! There are some powerful forces coming together this week that will bring many people’s year to an end with a bang… and not necessarily the good kind of “bang,” either.

Feeling a little holiday tension? It’s not just you and it’s not just the time of year. Jupiter opposite Uranus (which has been in effect for a good couple of weeks) is exact on Monday. This aspect can make for a lot of erratic behavior, strange beliefs, and unexpected outbursts. Making this combination particularly strong is the fact that Uranus is slowing down now in preparation to come out of retrograde, and a slow planet packs more punch. This opposition will have an effect throughout January, but you’ll be feeling it especially strongly this weekend.

Mercury sextile Neptune is also exact on Monday. Normally I’d be saying something about how that will make your communications more heartfelt and creative, but frankly a nice soft aspect like that is probably going to get lost in the shuffle of everything else this week.

Late Wednesday/Early Thursday brings the New Moon in Capricorn. I always make sure to remind people to set out some intentions for themselves on a New Moon, and given that the traditional New Year’s Resolutions are coming up, you might want to actually lay the groundwork for that now. Nothing wrong with lending a little Capricorn ambition to your plans either, especially since Mercury sextile Mars is exact on Wednesday too, which will lend a little fierceness to your ideas.

Finally, you’ve got to admit that for a lot of us, 2016 was crap… the kind of year that can and should go out with a bang. For many of us, that’s exactly what’s going to happen. First of all, don’t forget that Jupiter opposite Uranus will still be very much in effect. Second, late on Saturday evening/early Sunday morning (depending on your time zone), Mars conjunct Neptune will be exact. Now: combine all that with the outgoing (yet often impersonal) Moon in Aquarius, then add a lot of pent-up frustrations and plenty of alcohol — it’s New Year’s Eve after all. For the most part this should all make for some great partying… but the potential for people getting out of hand is particularly high this weekend.
