Since Jupiter moves into Virgo for a year starting on Tuesday, let’s talk about that… more importantly, let’s talk about the things you may have heard about it but that just aren’t true.

First of all, yes: technically this is a debilitated placement for Jupiter. This by no means indicates that your happiness or life philosophy or whatever is doomed between now and next September. The results you get will depend on the details of your birth chart. You may also read that if you are an Earth Sign, it will make for a great year overall. This isn’t necessarily true either. Did everyone who is a Fire Sign have a totally awesome rocking time in the last year just because Jupiter was in a Leo? Nope. Having said that, Jupiter in Virgo won’t be bad at all for you if you’re a Virgo.

The most important thing to remember about Jupiter and its transits is this: they tend to be soft and pleasant, which is why they often go by relatively unnoticed. Even difficult Jupiter transits can have a quality to them akin to getting a bellyache from eating too many cookies. The bellyache is real, but the memory of those delicious cookies lingers. Now is a good time to get to know the details of your birth chart if you don’t already, and you’ll best be able to exploit Jupiter’s movements throughout the next year.

Besides: if you like that boisterous bounce that Leo gives to things, you’ve got Mars. It entered Leo late last week and will be spending a little over a month there. Romantically, don’t be afraid to make the bold moves and big gestures. Mars in Cancer wasn’t terribly useful for that sort of thing, but if you are the type who loves hoisting a boombox over your head and playing Peter Gabriel like John Cusack did in “Say Anything,” then this Mars placement is prime time for you.

If you know how to work with it, the biggest astrological news this week doesn’t really involve Jupiter at all. It is the New Moon on Friday. This could be an incredibly successful day for you to set new objectives for yourself, as the Moon is both trine Uranus and conjunct Venus. If you want real breakthroughs in the next month as far as love, money, or finding your own freedom goes, then this Friday is a great time to take that first step.

The Weekend dating situation hold some promise for a good time. The Moon is in Virgo, which is usually known for its restraint, but he’s conjunct Jupiter on Saturday. Moon conjunct Jupiter is always a good time to get out and socialize and have a laugh or two. And happiness is attractive, isn’t it?
