You know that old 60s slogan, “Make Love, Not War?” That’s a nice-sounding concept, but Love and War aren’t exactly opposites. In fact (as great 20th Century philosopher Pat Benatar pointed out) love is a battlefield. Sometimes in a relationship you have to stand up for yourself, and sometimes in order to build new love you have to carpet-bomb the wreckage of a previous relationship. Romantically speaking, this week is loaded with opportunities for you to engage in a little creative destruction.
The first part of the week is dominated by Venus square Jupiter, exact on Monday. Neither one of these planets are usually associated with bad news, but the square aspect can make any planet a little more tense than usual. Emotionally or financially, beware the urge to be excessive… unless going a little financially or emotionally overboard suits your long-term purposes.
If you’re in one of those classic situations where you’re not sure whether to make up or break up, Venus square the Nodes early in the week will likely amp up the pressure. That could be useful when it comes to making up your mind on the matter, or it could just make things more frustrating — and if you’re on the receiving end of that sort of indecision, beware. Aspects to the Nodes are often a time when karmic bonds are fulfilled… or broken.
Normally under these circumstances, the smart thing to do would be to stay calm and be logical. That’s Mercury’s department, but unfortunately Mercury is a little impaired this week. Not only is it still retrograde, it spends the week square to Uranus, with the exact aspect happening on Friday. If you’ve got a dilemma in your love life that can be solved by blurting something out, not editing your words, or drunk-dialing an ex, then this is your time to shine! Except of course… what are the odds of THAT?
All of this comes just in time for the weekend dating scene, which features the Moon in Cancer and then Leo, which are both noted for (in very different ways) emotional flare-ups. Fortunately by Saturday evening, Venus leaves the turbulence created for it by Jupiter and the Nodes and enters the relatively sane territory of Capricorn. If this week robbed you of any of your romantic delusions, this is excellent news. Next week Venus has a rendezvous with Neptune… so it will be time to build some entirely new romantic delusions for yourself! That’s progress, isn’t it…?
