Love Horoscope for the Week of February 8

weeklyloveValentine’s Day: Do any of us really need that this year? Certainly Venus herself doesn’t. She’s the Love Planet and knows it, and doesn’t need a restaurant reservation or flowers to confirm it. Also, in one of the great paradoxes of our modern and enlightened society that is so saturated in “sexiness” and readily-available internet porn, we tend to overlook the implied sexual component of Valentine’s Day. That’s where Mars comes in, and he has a couple of headaches to face himself this week.

On the face of it, both planets are getting great support from Jupiter (who, as the song says, makes lovin’ fun). But both Venus and Mars aspect Chiron this week. Even a good transit to Chiron brings a touch of pain and neurosis to the proceedings, and wasn’t Valentine’s Day already a potential minefield for that sort of thing anyway? If you’re in a relationship where you can reasonably get away with postponing Valentine’s for purely astrological reasons, congratulations — you may have a keeper. However, expectations are always high this time of year, so you’re likely just going to have to plow through it and do your best.

Now, here’s they key to understanding this week’s forecast: notice how I’ve managed to be all down on Valentine’s Day here without giving you any actual, tangible reason for it? That’s how Chiron works sometimes. The pain can be nebulous and hard to localize or diagnose, but it’s still real.

Venus sextile Chiron and Mars trine Chiron are exact on Monday and Tuesday respectively, and have an effect over the entire week. One wants to kiss and cuddle all your problems away, and the other one wants to take you on a 5K Fun Run to get your mind off of things. Either of those approaches could normally work, but the deep psychological issues that Chiron brings with it are rarely dealt with in such simple ways. Who and how you love, and the things you strive for in life, may be as much a source of suffering as they are an escape from it.

Venus trine Jupiter (exact on Wednesday) and Mars sextile Jupiter (exact on Saturday) make themselves felt further on in the week. If you are in a relationship, it’s a shame you can’t move Valentine’s day to the middle of the week, when the natural emotional happiness and little outbursts of delight that come with Venus trine Jupiter are at their peak. Mars sextile Jupiter elevates the energy levels, not just for sex but for anything you need to strength for (but of course, there’s nothing wrong with using it for sex).

Finally, Valentine’s Day itself features Moon in Taurus. Whether you have restaurant reservations or are just planning to stay home and binge-watch something, soaking up some comfort is a good idea.
