One of the most hurtful things about dating is being ghosted. You make a connection that means something. At least, you think it does. Then, after one date (or worse, a few months) the other person vanishes. They abruptly stop responding to your texts and emails, and you’re left hanging. Did you do something to drive them away? Are they dead? You’ll never know. It’s a kind of torture, and you wonder what would possess someone to treat you this way. All they have to do is let you know they’re not interested anymore. That’s how they’d want to be treated. But that’s the sticking point: empathy. Each sign handles empathy in different ways, and certain signs can be predisposed to ghosting based on how they connect (or don’t connect) with others. Read on to see who they are, and why they might do this. Note that their inclusion in this list is not a guarantee that they will ghost you.
Gemini
Motivation: boredom or distraction
Gemini’s low boredom threshold — combined with an interest in anything new — can make him flighty. What first intrigued him about you may become stale after a few dates. The radio silence that follows probably occurs because he’s already moved on to his next fascinating encounter. He’s just not thinking about you anymore. As cruel as this sounds, the lower expression of Gemini can be so detached and scattered that he doesn’t consider the impact ghosting will have on you. Also, this Air sign is not fond of heavy emotional encounters. The thought of a potential scene (or tears) when he tells you he’s not that into you can be enough to shut down his lines of communication. This may be the only time Gemini has nothing to say.
Libra
Motivation: fear of confrontation
If there’s one thing this Venus-ruled sign dreads, it’s confrontation. The ugly little scene where she tells you she’s losing interest has the potential to get awkward. Plus, it’ll ruin her sweetheart rep. Yes, as twisted as it sounds, Libra would rather preserve the illusion that everything’s fine, even if she never speaks to you again. Of course, ghosting is far crueler than just coming out and telling you it’s over. And she might intend on having that talk with you. If she’s an evolved Libra, her sense of fairness will translate into social responsibility, and she will tell you. But lower Libra will keep putting it off and putting it off. The longer she waits, the more hurt she knows you’ll be. In the end, it’s easier to avoid the whole thing and move on.
Scorpio
Motivation: the past is dead
It takes a lot to push this sign to the point of ghosting, but it can happen. Scorpio’s all-or-nothing approach is the culprit. If he’s into you, he’s obsessed with you. But if he loses interest, he’s gone. A more evolved Scorpio will at least say “goodbye,” but sometimes this sign will see no reason to waste one more ounce of energy on you — especially if you’ve hurt him. He gives so much of himself when he’s into you. If that changes, he has nothing left to give. He’s not fretting about should he/shouldn’t he contact you, he’s just done. You are part of the past, and the past is dead and buried.
Capricorn
Motivation: strategic cutbacks
No one says “no” like this Saturn-ruled sign. She is brutally efficient, sometimes to the point where letting you know it’s over is a waste of her time. If she’s a mature Capricorn, she’ll do the right thing and end things properly (although she won’t be warm and fuzzy about it). But the Shadow version of this sign sees no point in reaching out to clue you in; she’s already focused on her next goal. Her legendary control is taken to the extreme, where emotional independence is distorted into repression. A distaste of “weakness” can translate into avoidance of any scenario where hurt feelings might come up. This is an expression of her own fears around losing control.
Pisces
Motivation: drifting away
There are two possible reasons Pisces may ghost you. This sign absorbs your energy like a sponge. If he’s not good at handling unpleasant interactions, he may find it easier to just disappear, rather than confront you. At the other end of the spectrum, there’s the Pisces that can be just as detached as any Air sign. Ruled by Neptune, his energy is universal, not personal. Depending on his level of self-awareness, he may not be empathetic at all. He can create the illusion of intimacy, but once his interest in you fades, so does the illusion. Shadow Pisces may not care enough to let you know it’s over, although he’ll never admit that what he’s doing is hurtful.
