You may view this day with excitement, trepidation, scorn or depression, depending on your approach to love and your current relationship status.

Love It

If you’re looking forward to giving/receiving flowers or going out for dinner at an expensive restaurant (that had to be booked months in advance) then Venus will be on your side. Venus in Capricorn expresses herself according to protocol. Classic material manifestations of love are favored. Status is a Capricorn thing, so expensive (but not gaudy) will be emphasized. But really, it’s more about following the well-worn path. And this can reaffirm the love between you and your partner, because Capricorn is the sign of commitment and responsibility.

Hate It

There are different camps of people who dislike Valentine’s Day. The supposedly enlightened folks look down their noses at anyone who buys a Valentine’s gift. These people (single or coupled) know that their version of love is better, because they don’t lower themselves to expressing their affections with material goods. If this is you, guess what? You’re doing shadow Venus in Capricorn. Passing judgement on the way someone else loves does not make you better than the shoppers vying for overpriced chocolates and flowers. Distorted Venus in Capricorn has rigid ideas about what’s acceptable in relationships. Traditionalists and rebels can both express Venus’ shadow when they assume they’re superior to the masses.

But maybe you aren’t judging anyone. You simply don’t see why one day should be the day you honor your partner, just because the stores say so. Or, maybe you’re unhappily single. Valentine’s Day becomes a reminder of what you don’t have. Venus in Capricorn can emphasize isolation, loneliness and mourning. This Saturn-ruled sign is about limits and denial, so it’s not exactly a bountiful place for Venus.

But rather than dwelling on what you don’t have, or how this day makes you feel like an outsider, consider that Capricorn is also about maturity and authority. The flip side of isolation is independence, and Venus in Capricorn can reaffirm your commitment to yourself and your traditions. Are they healthy or destructive? Do they reflect your core values? If you can’t or don’t want to mark this day with someone special, you can always use Venus’ activation of Capricorn to take note of what you’ve made real. What physical expression does your self-esteem take? If you’d like to attract someone, consider if the structures in your life support this. Venus in Capricorn can attract actual manifestations of what you’re putting out, so pay attention to the people in your vicinity.

If you have any planets, angles or Nodes around 26/27 degrees of the Cardinal or Earth signs, Venus will have a direct impact on you. She won’t trigger anything earth-shattering, since her transit is so brief. But looking at what she’s aspecting in your chart can give you some information.
