Jupiter’s Transit of Libra and the Cardinal Signs

Jupiter leaves Virgo for Libra on September 9th, 2016. The planet that brings more of everything, in the sign of the balance, suggests that (initially) relationships may become unbalanced. We can expect situations to swing between extremes. On the positive side, there will be a broader perspective on all things Libra: romance, social connections, and objective awareness. The hope (another Jupiter quality) is that the concept of fairness will increase, as well as the desire for harmony. Overall, I think this will be a positive transit for relationships. It won’t be deep or profound — Libra’s desire for peace, combined with Jupiter’s tendency to overlook the details, suggests more social gloss and an “everything’s just fine” attitude. But sometimes this is what you need to keep moving forward, or to buoy a shaky relationship.

Cardinal signs will feel this transit most strongly. If you have any planets in these signs, this should be an active transit for you, as Cardinal energy is about making something happen. Jupiter exits Libra on October 10th, 2017.

Libra

Jupiter will bring you opportunities. For romance? That’s a strong possibility. At the very least, your ever-present urge to be in a relationship will increase, and Jupiter’s sense of adventure will kick in. You could be ready to step outside your social comfort zone and check out a situation that’s almost inappropriate (for you). Don’t get me wrong — this is not a dangerous transit. But sometimes you can be a bit “correct” and this influence will enlarge your sense of what’s possible. Along with this, Jupiter will increase your natural charm, flirtatiousness and social talents. You’ll feel better about being you, which will magnify your tendency to reach out to others. That’s a powerful combination if you’re looking to meet someone special, or if you simply want to enjoy the rewards of a vibrant social life.

If you’re already in a relationship and things are going well, they should get better. You’ll feel magnanimous, rising above the petty squabbles. Your tendency to keep everything nice and pretty will go into overdrive. You may want to give more, because this transit can increase your generosity. Ideally, the more you give to your partner, the more you’ll get in return. But watch that you don’t give so much that you lose track of what you want. Jupiter’s rush of enthusiasm can make extreme gestures of love seem like a really good idea. And they may be. But any areas of imbalance in a partnership will also increase, and your awareness of what’s not fair will be heightened. Will you do something about it?

Aries

Jupiter will oppose your sign. This will be like adding rocket fuel to a bonfire. You may be pushed to take a romantic leap, or leap out of a constricting relationship. Your natural independence and impulsiveness will increase, and your tolerance for restrictions will be less than zero. So will your tolerance for being denied. You could become quite pushy in new or existing relationships. You’re likely to feel that things must happen immediately, but spare a thought for the other person. They may be tickled by your infectious enthusiasm, or put off by it.

Transiting Uranus is already stirring things up in your sign, and Jupiter will oppose it. Key dates will be December 26, 2016, March 2nd, 2017 and September 28, 2017, when the oppositions are exact. This is a classically “lucky” influence, with unexpected (usually positive) developments. Watch for chance meetings or opportunities to make innovative changes in a relationship. Then again, this opposition can be the trigger that fractures a partnership, if you’ve been thinking about moving on.

Cancer

Jupiter will square your sign, pumping up your need to nurture. Your hugs will be stronger and last longer. The mothering energy that underlies your approach to partnerships will increase, and could become smothering energy. You’ll probably have the best of intentions if you overdo the care and concern: you’ll feel more giving and less cautious, even around those you’re not familiar with. It will feel good to nurture.

The flip side of all this giving is an increase in your needs. This could be a moody time, as your emotional shifts accelerate. Feelings will be BIG. You may demand more from your partner, or expect more from a prospective love interest. If someone is not immediately receptive to your loving overtures, you may feel quite hurt and resentful. Remember that Jupiter expands everything, so while the overall vibe will be “more to give” you’ll feel everything more powerfully.

Capricorn

Jupiter will square your sign, pushing against your usual caution and focus. You won’t magically transform into a love-hungry relationship seeker, but you may find it easier to let your guard down. If your ambitions are trained on a specific relationship goal or new romantic possibility, Jupiter can increase that ambition.

As you’re well aware, Pluto is transiting your sign. Jupiter will be squaring Pluto, exact on three dates: November 24th, 2016, March 30th, 2017 and August 4th, 2017. Jupiter will expand Pluto’s power and intensity, and Pluto will intensify Jupiter’s optimism. This can be a positive influence, if handled correctly. It suggests massive change, and the key will be which direction you push something. Any relationship developments will be driven by intensified expansion and ambition. You’ll have the power and motivation to manifest significant growth in your love life, and there’s no risk of you sitting back and passively allowing Jupiter’s opportunities to slide by. The square creates enough tension to spur activity, and when Pluto is activated, the evolutionary drive will be irresistible. Ambition is not a romantic word, but you may become quite fixated on a certain goal. Remember that the other person has a say in what happens.
