Love Horoscope for the Week of July 4

It seems entirely appropriate that the week begins with both July the Fourth (a holiday which Americans cerebrate by blowing things up) and a New Moon in Cancer opposite Pluto in Capricorn. The day of a New Moon is always great for setting your goals for the month to follow, and given the strength of a Moon in Cancer and the explosive power of an opposition to Pluto, it might be best to set some goals about getting rid of the things (or attitudes) you don’t need. That, and since it’s a holiday, avoid arguing.

Much of the week’s astrology, in the spirit of the traditional July Fourth sales, has a “clearance sale/while supplies last” quality. Both Mercury and Venus make important aspects before leaving Cancer next week. First, on Tuesday, Mercury trine Neptune is an ideal day for creative thinking and kind words. You know that love letter you keep meaning to write? Now’s the time for it!

Then, on Wednesday, Venus trine Mars (which is in effect throughout the week) becomes exact. Any Venus-Mars aspect will amplify people’s sex drives in general, but the emotional intensity of both Cancer (Venus) and Mars (in Scorpio) might almost be too much of a good thing. If you or someone you’ve been checking out has been sitting on the fence about taking a relationship to the next level, this aspect could provide the energy and motivation to make that change happen.

Those Mercury and Venus aspects are best exploited early in the week, because (again in the spirit of July the Fourth) the planets ruling your interpersonal relationships go from “exciting fireworks” to “don’t blow your fingers off” in the second half of the week. Thursday in particular sees some aspects that can cause some serious agitation with your relationships. Mercury opposite Pluto can make the wrong words leap out at the wrong target, so beware of agitation, especially when you feel your needs (or are they just appetites?) aren’t being met. The reason for your unreasonable appetites might be that Venus is square Uranus (and carries on through the weekend). Who, what, and how you love may face some interesting twists and unexpected turns. Also, if your blood sugar levels are an issue, take special precautions. Finally on Thursday, Sun opposite Pluto might boost your self-esteem… but it’s more likely to just inflate your (or someone else’s) ego.

All of this makes for an exciting and potentially wild time this weekend. Thankfully, Moon in Virgo is in effect Friday and Saturday, which may lend a sense of calm and decorum to what could be an otherwise crazy time. The downside to this is that Virgos — sweet and thoughtful creatures that they are — can totally get away with murder (or whatever their ulterior motives are) when they put their sharp minds to it. Keep this in mind when that charming stranger shows up out of nowhere and starts chatting you up. Otherwise — have fun!
