Love Horoscope for the Week of December 14

This week we are confronted with a series of relatively innocuous aspects that, in and of themselves, might not add up to a lot of trouble; but given the natural edge life often seems to develop at this time of year, it’s best to keep an eye on the small stuff. Great ideas often come from small stuff, but so can big disasters. This is a principle that astrologers (and fans of astrology) tend to forget until it suddenly turns and bites them on the butt: just because the current Big Bads (Saturn square Neptune and Uranus square Pluto) aren’t exact this week doesn’t mean they aren’t still in play. It’s usually the smaller transits that set the big ones off.

The week begins with a certain indefinable sense of restlessness… and not just because it’s a Monday this close to the Holiday Season. Sun square Jupiter (exact on Monday but carrying on through the middle of the week) can often make a good time more boisterous, and that’s fun, right? However, that aspect can also make mountains out of molehills when it comes to bruised egos. Keep in mind that when you have that sudden urge to shove someone out of the way, someone’s probably feeling exactly the same way about you.

The biggest aspect this week — exact on Thursday but making its effects felt throughout the week — is Venus sextile Pluto. Venus already has a bit of a reputation for being a “bad girl” in Scorpio, in both the “sexy” and the “jealous and controlling” sense. Whether or not those generalizations are always true for people with that placement in their birth charts is up for debate, but one thing is for sure: Venus in Scorpio comes with powerful urges. Combining that with an aspect to Pluto creates an emotional powerhouse.

After a week like that, it’s a good idea to get out and blow off some steam… just make sure you understand the difference between “blowing off some steam” and “blowing up in someone’s face.” For the weekend, there are some powerful communication energies going around. By “powerful,” I mean “expressing yourself to loved ones via ransom notes and bomb threats.” Mercury in Capricorn is conjunct Pluto on Saturday, and rolls into the square with Uranus on Sunday, but both aspects are in effect for Date Night. Moon in Aries for Friday and Saturday evening won’t exactly make your dating situation sedate either. By the time Moon in Taurus rolls around Sunday, you’ll need the placid calm that placement usually brings.
