The big aspect this week is Sun sextile Neptune. As major transits go, this is not exactly a blockbuster that grabs all the attention, but it’s certainly good for keeping morale up. That’s going to be important, because for a lot of us the stretch between Christmas and New Year’s is (let’s be honest) kind of a drag. You have the emotional hangover from the holiday that promises “peace on Earth” but rarely delivers, followed by your yearly reminder that you’re getting older and another year has blown by (because your birthday just wasn’t good enough for that, was it?). So — much as I’ve found myself saying every year at a New Year’s party where someone (or possibly me) turns into a jackass — it could be worse.
Venus enters Sagittarius on Friday. Venus in Scorpio was a lot of fun for many (despite being a “debilitated” placement), but as far as romance goes, Venus in Scorpio is a little better suited to porn than to a meet-cute romantic comedy. Sagittarius is better suited to getting out and socializing and laughing over people’s jokes and suchlike, and thus can lay the groundwork for getting new love started. If you’re in a relationship that could use more fun, your chances will be better with Venus in Sagittarius.
Mercury enters Aquarius on Saturday. Get creative and innovate with your communications, but get that started soon: Mercury turns retrograde next week, and with that comes all the usual warnings about proofreading and short trips and the like.
As for your romantic prospects this weekend: Moon in Libra for Friday and Saturday ought to make the outlook reasonably bright… assuming that you and your intended aren’t already too partied out from New Year’s.
Finally, a word about New Year’s resolutions: in priniciple they’re a great idea, but they rarely stick. The reason for that is that when it comes to setting up the circumstances for a new venture (quitting smoking, getting in shape, going back to school, et cetera) astrology can help you maximize your odds of success, but declaring the venture to have “begun” simply because it’s 01/01 at 00:00 does absolutely nothing astrologically. In fact, for most of North America (other than the two Westernmost time zones) the Moon will be Void of Course at midnight… and thus any new ventures are less likely to gain ground. Give yourself until the next day to start on that resolution of yours. Or better yet, consult an astrologer. We love stuff like that. Happy New Year!
